Ted Movie Review

Awwww... A movie about a cute family friendly teddy bear come to life right??  Err.. Read on to find out.

Do you like Family Guy?  If yes then you will enjoy Ted and if no then you may still enjoy elements of Ted.  It’s not a great movie but a decent one which is pretty funny at times.

So the story is about John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg) who makes a childhood wish for his teddy bear to come to life and by some miracle it does.  As adults they’re both a couple of weed smoking lazy bums.  Somehow, Wahlberg, despite having a dead end go-nowhere-fast job, has managed to get himself a pretty nice home with an even nicer girlfriend; Lori Collins played by the always fun to watch Mila Kunis.  Wahlberg finds himself torn between the woman of his dreams and his best friend, Ted.

Ted is basically Family Guy’s Peter Griffin in cute bear form voiced by the very same Seth MacFarlane.  He’s vulgar, rude, to the point and strangely lovable all at the same time.

Those easily offended with mild sensibilities need not view as they will likely be offended by the movies frequent references to porn, prostitution, sexual positions, smoking weed, poop and anything else seedy you can think of.  This is quite literally toilet humour though, perhaps, coming from a cute teddy bear it won’t seem that bad.

It was interesting seeing how people initially reacted to a bear coming to life and how he integrated into society, slowly losing his minor celebrity status and eventually ending up as a lazy forgotten bum.  The film seems aimless and random at times though I personally liked that.  It’s nice, for once, not to watch a movie where you know exactly what’s going to happen in every scene.  Having said that, there are also moments with the so-called bad guys that are very predictable.

I really liked the pop culture (Taylor Lautner haha!!) and ‘80s references, especially those relating to the classic 1980 movie Flash Gordon and I think that this movie will resonate most with us early 80s kids.

Ted is silly, funny, vulgar and at times sentimental.  If you’ve seen the trailer or any episodes of Family Guy then you already know what to expect.  Just go and have fun.

Rating 3.5/5
